Black History Month kicks off tomorrow and this coming Thursday Islanders are invited along to a free event at the Carnival Learning Centre in Ryde.
Alexander D Great is known as the Emperor of SocaBlues and the premier calypsonian.
He was born in Belmont, Trinidad, but brought up in West London, and has always been around musicians, making music for a living himself by the age of twenty.
A prolific performer, Alexander has appeared at such festival as the Notting Hill Carnival, the BBC, Cambridge Folk Festival, Ealing Jazz Festival, The Lyric Theatre and hundreds of schools.
He describes his music as “It’s a bit like milk with all the fat put back!
Get along to the Carnival Learning Centre, Westridge, Ryde between 7-8.30pm on Thursday to catch the man in action.
