The Swim to Bestival event is not the only physical challenge taking place on the 5th September on the Wight.
We hear through the office of Andrew Turner that on the same day, he will be launching Breathe Easy Isle of Wight’s ‘Coastal Path Challenge’.
It’s a 72-mile sponsored walk around the Island and starts from Appley Beach Cafe, Appley Lane in Ryde at 10am Friday next week.
Apparently, the sponsored walk has been organised by Sarah Kearney, Respiratory Nurse Specialist at St Mary’s and Andy Savage, Treasurer of the local Breathe Easy group and whose father Cyril sadly passed away a few years ago because of a serious respiratory disease.
Sarah said:
“One person in seven in the UK is affected by a lung disease, such as asthma, emphysema or chronic bronchitis, at some time in their lives. Although I like to walk for the exercise, I have never attempted a long-distance hike so I am looking forward to this, but with some trepidation! I am hoping that as well as raising money for Breathe Easy and the British Lung Foundation, I will have lots of fun whilst also getting fit!”
Breathe Easy Isle of Wight is part of the British Lung Foundation support network, which offers support to people and carers living with various forms of lung disease. They hold monthly meetings and offer a range of social events, talks, and very importantly a chance to meet and speak to others with similar problems.
Sarah, Andy and Andrew Turner MP invite the public to join them for the launch of the walk at Appley Beach cafe.
There will also be a finish-party from 2pm-4pm at the same location on 14th September to welcome them on their return.
