As OnTheWight mentioned yesterday, social media has been awash with ‘IceBucketChallenge’ videos of people hoping to raise awareness and money for charities supporting research into Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
What’s the IceBucketChallenge?
If you haven’t seen any of the IceBucketChallenge videos the idea is that you pour icy water over you (to simulate the severe numbness that is felt by those with MND) and then nominate three others to do the same, with a time limit on when they must complete the challenge by.
If they choose not to have icy cold water poured over them, they are asked to donate £100 to the MND Association instead. Many people are choosing to do both.
Adam nominates Andrew
In our Facebook newsfeed last night we spotted a video by Adam Harvey from Newport. What was unusual about Adam’s video was that within his nominations was Isle of Wight Conservative MP, Andrew Turner.
We asked Adam why he’d chosen to nominate the Isle of Wight MP. Adam told OnTheWight,
“My reason is straight forward. I feel, like many, that modern politics (even on a local scale) is out of touch with the very people it’s suppose to represent.
“Maybe this will give Andrew Turner a chance to demonstrate he’s just like the rest of us in being able to slightly debase himself for charity.
“Surely this small gesture can only help to bridge the ever growing gap in our community whilst contributing to a great cause. A plus on all counts as far as I’m concerned.”

We’ll get in touch with Andrew Turner’s office and make sure he’s aware of the nomination and let you know what he plans to do.
