Following the ongoing revelations of the phone hacking scandal at News International publications and the possibility of a vote in Parliament on Wednesday, we got in touch with MP for the Isle of Wight, Andrew Turner.
It was suggested at the weekend that MPs may be asked to vote on whether Rupert Murdoch should be allowed to buy the remaining 61% of BSkyB they don’t already own and we were interested to know how Andrew Turner would vote on the issue.
He told VB, “At the moment there is no information on the wording of the motion or any amendments that will be before the House of Commons on Wednesday and until I know what is actually being proposed I can’t say how I will vote.
“Horrific behaviour by some journalists”
“However, it is perfectly clear there has been horrific behaviour by some journalists, particularly involving bereaved and grieving families.
“Like so many people I am extremely concerned about what has come to light and the revelations that seem to keep on coming. Those concerns will certainly be reflected in how I vote on Wednesday.
“This is a constantly changing situation and there is to be a statement in the Commons this afternoon by the Culture Secretary, which may change the direction of what happens on Wednesday.”
The culture secretary, did this afternoon, announce that he was refering News Corporation’s bid for BSkyB to the Competition Commission. The inquiry is expected to last around a year.
