Andy Gomarsall and CharlotteGreat news reaches us today that England and Harlequins Rugby Union player, Andy Gomarsall has agreed to become a patron of St Catherine’s School in Ventnor.

He recently joined St Catherine’s at a London reception to help raise awareness of speech, language and communication disabilities.

Sharing the stage with learners from St Catherine’s Further Education Centre, Charlotte, James and Andrew he spoke about the highs and lows of his rugby career and how his own communication skills have assisted his playing and work.

The young people then explained the challenges they face in everyday life and how St Catherine’s has supported them in fulfilling their potential.

“For someone who loves sport as much as I do, it was amazing to spend the evening with Andy. He was very interested and asked lots of questions.”

Suzanne Hudson, Director of Development at St Catherine’s

“In addition to his superb rugby playing, Andy is known as the best communicator of all the scrum halves in the country. When we took the decision to invite a sportsman to join the reception his name was top of the list. Not only did Andy immediately express an interest in assisting us on this particular evening, but following the reception he kindly agreed to join the charity as a patron which is fantastic.”

Andy said

“St Catherine’s is an amazing charity and I feel very privileged to be part of the team going forward. After meeting Charlotte, James and Andrew I cannot wait to visit the centre later this year and spend time with the children, young people and staff.”
