Figures for unemployed claimants came out this morning which show that 3,012 people on the Isle of Wight were claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) in November 2013.
Unemployment Benefit figures released by the Office for National Statistics show a rise of 232 since October 2013, which reported 2,780 JSA claimants, and a fall of 466 from November 2012 (3,478).
That means 3.7% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – 1.9% more than the rest of the South East (1.8%), and 0.6% more than the whole of the UK (2.9%).
