Can you help with this appeal from the IOW Friends of Palestine Group? Ed
Following the Israeli attack on Gaza last January, Israel is only allowing limited medical supplies and some foods in to Gaza.
Everything else is banned: toilet paper, toothbrushes, bedding, clothing, musical instruments, paper, pens, children’s toys … and books.
On 5th December, three drivers from the Isle of Wight will be travelling with the Viva Palestina convoy, which will be joining others from Ireland, Europe, Turkey and Arab countries to bring aid (and hope!) to Gaza.
The Island vehicles will be packed with freshly laundered bedding, rescued from the IOW Festival, wheelchairs and medical supplies.
On two previous occasions – presumably to avoid negative media coverage – nearly all the supplies that have been brought by the convoys have been allowed through.
This is, therefore, a golden opportunity to provide schools and universities with some stationery and books.
The university has written a wishlist which is too long to print here, so if you’re interested please write to info(at)iow-friendsofpalestine.greenisp.org Rachel(at)Bridgeland.co.uk (make sure you replace (at) with an @ sign)
As many books as possible are required, both to give students something to read and also to demonstrate to the people of Gaza that they have not been (entirely) forgotten by the rest of the world.
