Police are appealing for witnesses following a three-vehicle collision on Staplers Road in Wootton Bridge.
The incident happened shortly before 9.30am and involved a silver Citroen Xsara Picasso, a blue Ford Ka and a blue Kia estate.
The driver of the Ka, an elderly man from Newport, sustained life threatening injuries and had to be cut from his vehicle along with the front seat passenger an elderly woman, also from Newport. They were taken by ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.
The driver of the Picasso, a 46-year-old woman from Newport, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to St Mary’s Hospital as a precaution.
The driver of the Kia, a 59-year-old man from Wootton Bridge, was uninjured.
Road closed until 4pm
Staplers Road is closed between Blacklands Road and Briddlesford Road and is expected to remain so until 4pm.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact Sergeant Paul Bailey at Shanklin Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Tennison.
