It’s not uncommon to see promotional material produced off the Island wrongly referring to Isle of Wight as Isle of White.
It even pops up in respected national newspaper articles from time to time.
The latest bloomer brought to our attention is in an advert for Parkdean Resorts who have four holiday parks on the Island.
Luring the Cornish trade?
OnTheWight reader Dave McCullouch spotted the bloomer on a poster in the waiting room of the Fishbourne car ferry.
We’re not sure how long it’s been up, but Dave appears to the be first to discover and write about it.
He tweeted us this morning saying,

The cost of poor proof-reading
As you can see, advert sports a map, on which not only have they placed Tintagel Castle (located almost 200 miles away) where Carisbrooke Castle should be, but they’ve also fallen foul of the common typo of Brightstone for Brighstone (I often do it myself).
Mistakes like that are easily correctable when publishing online, but when you go to print, the importance of thorough proof-reading has a financial angle.
Having a laugh
So far, the bloomer has elicited a jovial response from Carisbrooke, but no word from Parkdean or Tintagel Castle.
