The first batch of 2011 Census forms have been sent out in the post today.
A whopping 26 million households will be receiving forms over the next couple of weeks in preparation for Census Day, 27th March.
The purpose of the Census is to provide a clear picture of the UK’s population. The procedure takes place every ten years and the information is gathered by the Office of National Statistics.
What will I be asked?
If you’ve never completed a Census form before you might be wondering what sort of questions you’ll be asked.
It’s a procedure that’s been going on for over 200 years with the number of questions growing each time. In the 2001 Census, there were 40 questions covering a range of subjects from housing, employment, ethnic groups, health and disability.
The first census in 1801 took place because the Government was worried that the country’s supply of food may not be enough to feed the growing population. It asked five questions and the results showed 10 million people living in two million households.
We wonder whether Jedi will make it onto the list this time round?
