The annual Go Orange Day returns next week. Friday 12th February marks the day of celebration, awareness raising and fundraising for Independent Lifeboats.
The Isle of Wight has Independent Lifeboat stations at Freshwater, Sandown & Shanklin and Ryde. All of these independent lifeboats rely entirely on donations from the public to survive and all crew are volunteers.
Mark Birch, operations manager of Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat, is event co-ordinator for Go Orange Day. He said:
“We want everyone to know that we are independent, and need funding to keep going. If you visit the coast for a day out or holiday you never know when you may have to call upon lifeboat volunteers, so to ensure that they are there, please show your support.”
Get involved
Ideas for fundraising include a baked bean bath, orange bobbing, who can squeeze the most orange juice or just wearing orange for the day.
Why not organise something at your place of work or school to show your support for the Isle of Wight’s independent lifeboats.
