A man who went armed with a snooker cue to look for burglars who’d just assaulted him, was himself convicted at the Isle of Wight Crown Court this week.
The court heard how the 22 year old from Newport was spotted in possession of “an offensive weapon” by police, report the CP.
They’d seen him acting ‘furtively’ in the back of a car near Gunville Road and when questioned, he openly admitted he was looking for the burglars who had assaulted him at his home.
Knife left behind
The court heard how a knife, left by the burglars who had been clad in black balaclavas, had been found at his home the next day.
Being in possession of the snooker cue with the intention of finding the burglars resulted in an 18-month conditional discharge. The man was ordered to pay £445 costs and £195 in court charges.
The judge told the man,
“Nobody seems to dispute you were burgled and there were threats of violence. Had you used the pool cue then, you would have used it in reasonable self-defence. You were the victim to begin with.”
