Members of one of the Isle of Wight’s carnival companies, New Carnival, took part in a march campaigning for the release of Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange.
There were around 2,000 supporters from the Don’t Extradite Assange Campaign who met on Saturday night at Lincoln’s Inn Fields, near Holborn to march past Parliament Square.
Lady Justice: 13ft high puppet
As reported by News OnTheWight last week, those talented folk at New Carnival created a 13ft high puppet, Lady Justice, to take part in the Night Carnival.
Hannah Ray, the executive director of The New Carnival Company, said she’d decided to join the campaign to free Julian Assange as it was a perfect fit for the company. She told the PA news agency that she believes in freedom of speech and that Julian Assange should be freed.
The event featured speeches from Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s husband – Richard Ratcliffe, Ben Westwood – son of the late Dame Vivienne Westwood, and former Labour Party leader – Jeremy Corbyn.
