Artswork are honoured to be shortlisted at this year’s Children and Young People Now Awards for The Youth Volunteering and Social Action Award for the work we do in our Young Cultural Changemakers Programme.
Working across five locations identified as Priority Places by Arts Council England, children and young people in Arun, Dover, Slough, the New Forest and the Isle of Wight, are empowered to lead on significant creative projects in their local area. The programme responds to conversations with young people, where they have articulated their hopes, dreams and what they’d like to change about where they live.
A range of opportunities
It then connects them with artists to explore and communicate ideas, as well as the opportunity to undertake training and development opportunities that support their futures. They are then given funding that enables them to plan, organise and deliver creative youth-led projects that make a lasting difference in their communities and to their peers.
We are thrilled that the inspiring work our Young Cultural Changemakers have achieved in the first year of the programme has been acknowledged in this way.
Awards ceremony
We look forward to celebrating their hard work as well as our own teams at the awards ceremony on Thursday 28th November 2024, at the Novotel London West, Hammersmith.
In Year 1 of Artswork’s Young Cultural Changemakers Programme, 3,800 young people told us their hopes and concerns, as well as their ambitions on how they would establish positive change in their communities.
We have supported 3600 Young Cultural Changemakers to feel empowered to lead significant creative projects and transform the areas they live in and positively shape young people’s futures.
Govier: Delighted Artswork’s Young Cultural Changemakers is being recognised
Artswork’s CEO, Louise Govier highlights the significance of our Young Cultural Changemakers Programme, and what being shortlisted for the award means to us,
“We are so delighted that the brilliant work done by Artswork’s Young Cultural Changemakers is being recognised by being shortlisted for a Children and Young People Now Award.
“These young people have made murals, decorated community spaces, put on exhibitions, delivered festivals, created music, dance and film, built gardens and eco-friendly bike sheds – all sorts of things that they feel will make the places they live brighter and better, both for themselves and the wider community.
“We know that when we trust young people and empower them to take the lead, they do an incredible job. Thank you to the Children and Young People Now Awards for shining a spotlight on their ongoing achievements.”
