The figures reveal that in 2011/12 HMP Isle of Wight, which was made up of Albany, Camp Hill and Parkhurst prisons had a total of 770 staff.
Slight rise in number of attacks
During that year there 102 attacks on staff were reported. This breaks down to 21 in Albany, 42 in Camp Hill and 39 in Parkhurst.
The following year, 2012/13, the number of staff dropped to 700 but during that period, the number of reported attacks on prison staff rose to 106. This broke down to 24 in Albany, 45 in Camp Hill and 37 in Parkhurst.
Luckily the number of serious assaults was pretty low, with five recorded in 2011/12 and six recorded in 2012/13.
Comparison with other prisons
By contrast, Wormwood Scrubs prison in London, which had 520 staff in 2012/13 recorded 200 assaults on prison staff and Wetherby male juveniles prison, which had 400 staff in 2012/13 recorded a whopping 445 assaults on prison staff.
