Once in a while we get to hear a positive story coming out from the Isle of Wight Council (only joking!).
Seriously, this is a good one. News just reaches us today that the Police and Isle of Wight Council are funding a free music gig for da yoof on the Wight.
Apparently they’ve been in touch with the churches in Newport to look for help in organising an event to entertain the young people who normally congregate around the Bus Station.
The result is a free open air music gig featuring at least four Island bands. It’ll be taking place at Church Litten Park and the confirmed line-up so far features recent Live Wired finalists, Siniez, the lovely Emily Jane Band, Proximity Effect and Zero. We understand that more many be added to the list.
Those very generous folk from Solace (the free tea n cake tent that you might’ve seen at the Isle of Wight Festival and Bestival) will also be there, offering out free hot chocolate and cake. Ain’t they sweethearts?
If this goes well, it’s planned for every quarter, so let’s hope the young people enjoy themselves and perhaps find some inspiration from the musical talent on stage and generosity in the Solace tent.
