Bestival might not be to everyone’s musical taste, so if you’re not heading over to Robin Hill this coming Friday, but fancy a night out (and help raise much needed cash for the hospice), then we have just the thing for you.
A treat is in store at NorthCourt, Shorwell on Friday 8th September at 8pm. The Beethoven Broadwood Trio returns to this magnificent venue for a recital which celebrates anniversaries of three famous composers.
Well loved by Island audiences, international musicians, Frances Mason, violin, James Halsey, cello, and Michael Freyhan, piano, promise an entertaining evening which combines expressive music making with informative yet informal introductions. The programme will feature pieces by Mozart, whose 250th anniversary is celebrated this year, Shostakovich, whose centenary it is, and Schumann who died 150 years ago. There will be a rare opportunity to hear the early and very tuneful Shostakovich trio, providing an insight into the basis from which he developed his later works, as well as favourites from the passionate Schumann and humorous Mozart.
Entrance to the concert is by programme, £10 adults, £2 children, available through Christine Harrison at NorthCourt on 740415 (booking advisable as space is limited) and proceeds will go to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
The Hospice aims to provide the best quality of life for patients with life-shortening conditions and their families, with both a day-care unit and an 14 bed in-patient ward as well as a home care service and bereavement counselling — all provided free of charge and has plans to open two new rooms this year. The cost of this fantastic Hospice care on the Island is £7,000 per day, of which the hospice has to raise £4,500!
