A Bembridge pub has taken a novel approach to countering its recent Food and Hygiene Standards Agency (FSA) rating of 1.
The pub is inviting customers to have a tour of the kitchen to see the improvements already made since the inspection report was published.
Book your visit
They say that ‘in the spirit of complete transparency’ anyone interested in taking a tour of the kitchen’s improvements can do so on Thursday 24th October between 10am and 11.30am.
All you need to do is email [email protected] to arrange a visit.
We have not seen this type of approach taken before to counter a one-star rating, could it be a first?
The FSA inspection
Inspected in August 2024, The Crab and Lobster Inn, was found to be lacking in several areas. The pub say their kitchen team “has been hard at work implementing improvements to ensure we maintain the highest standards of hygiene and food safety going forward”.
The inspector reported that ‘major improvement’ was necessary for the ‘cleanliness and condition of the facilities and the building’.
Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene
They also felt that ‘improvement’ was necessary in the area of ‘hygienic food handling’.
Hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage
The ‘management of food safety’ was found to be ‘generally satisfactory’.
System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future
