Bestival Lineup … Some of My Favs

jim noirYou will have heard by now that Scissor Sisters will be rounding off the Bestival this year.

I haven’t listened to a huge amount of their stuff before, but anyone who can get a 75 year old grannie on stage partying at the end of one of their gigs, rocks in my book. Pop meets disco meets rock … should be a stonking end to the festival of joy!

As I had a quick flick through the list of confirmed acts, yells of ‘yeessss’ could be heard outside my window and here’s why …

Jim Noir – the quintessential English gent, whose music is guaranteed to either get me up on the dance floor or have me swaying gently in the wings. I can’t wait to see him and his merry men perform live.

Son of Dave – I first saw him on Later with Jools and then caught him at The Big Chill last year … if you like rhythm and blues he’s the man to get your feet tapping and your hands clapping. Harmonica extraordinaire.

“This is sweet Devil music that no one can resist”.

John Martyn John Martyn – what more can I say except that the man is a true legend (and incurable romantic) … his music is so diverse that it spans across folk, blues, jazz, rock, reggae, trip hop, funk and he’s recorded with the likes of Lee Scratch Perry and Faithless. An absolute must to catch … let’s hope that above aren’t all playing at the same time.

The DJ lineups are equally excellent and I’ll be heading in the direction of any tent that hosts Ulrich Schnauss, Terry Hall or DJ Derek. Guaranteed grooving.

Anyway, that’s all for now … don’t forget that to get the cheaper tickets you need to splash the cash before midnight on Thursday.
