Bestival Update …. Rizla Blue Pavilion

You might remember that back in May our friends at Bestival HQ announced a fantastic opportunity for unsigned bands to play at Bestival 06.

Time for more info ….

They’ve teamed up with Rizla and the winners of the comp will be playing a 30 minute set on the opening night to the festival crowd in “The Blue Pavilion: Inspired by… Rizla”.

Budding musicians should submit their own inspired tracks to www.inspired-by.co.uk/podcasting. It does say you have to be over 18 to visit the site, so get your Mum or Dad to do it if you’re not (but don’t let it put you off).

‘The Blue Pavilion: inspired by…Rizla’, is a 24-hour, non-stop, ambient and electronica space showcasing the world’s best experimental and downtempo DJ’s and bands. Rizla favourites The Bays (pictured above) curate the whole of Friday and pass on to Rob da Bank for the weekend, there will be live performances from Ayota, Clayhill and Digitional as well as rare DJ sets from Ulrich Schnauss and Múm (pictured left and looking very cute with bed hair).

(I’ve been trying to catch Ulrich Schnauss many times before at festivals and always end up being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This year I’ll be setting alarms on my mobile and making sure I’m finally in the right place at the right time)

Anyway, back to the comp …

There are two rounds and submissions for the first opened last Friday (16th June) and closes on 7th July. For each, Rob da Bank and Rizla will choose the most ‘inspiring’ track as well as 5 runners up tracks. All of those chosen will be podcast on www.inspired-by.co.uk/podcasting

Once the head honchos have chosen the best tracks, we, the great unwashed, get to vote to decide which is the most inspired act worthy of the top prize.

Rob da Bank said, “The UK is producing some amazing new talent and I am really excited about Rizla’s involvement in finding and supporting inspiring new acts. Hopefully this will give all budding musicians the chance to demonstrate their individuality and unique sound and offer them the notoriety they deserve.

Put that in your stereo and smoke it!
