Blues and Twos fundraiser to support Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance

A special fundraising concert, Blues and Twos, aims to raise vital funds for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

The event is the initiative of David Ballard, who was airlifted from St Mary’s Hospital to Southampton General Hospital’s hyperacute stroke unit in October for emergency surgery.

A musical celebration for a worthy cause
David has received an enthusiastic response from musicians keen to take part in the event.

He said,

“I’ve had a wonderful response from musicians asking to take part.

“Jim Thorn and I have mined this rich seam of Island talent and put together a lively concert of jazz, folk, opera, feel-good Rock and Roll and songs from the shows.”

With such a diverse line-up, the concert promises something for everyone, ensuring plenty of toe-tapping and audience participation.

A line-up packed with talent
Performers include some of the Island’s most popular musicians, such as Loren Thorn, JC Grimshaw, The Burglars, Tony Nicol, The Watch, Black Daniels and Laurie McVay.

Laurie McVay is widely regarded as one of Britain’s leading blues singers and songwriters. His music is deeply rooted in modern blues while also drawing from soul and jazz influences. With his bands, The High Rollers and the Soul of Jazz, Laurie has performed at blues festivals and venues across the UK.

Reflecting on the importance of the air ambulance service, Laurie said,

“I am fortunate so far not to have required the services of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance; but, like many others, I deeply appreciate all of the work.

“I feel very grateful that we have such a highly skilled and extremely dedicated rapid response emergency service. These are extraordinary people.”

Where and when
Blues and Twos takes place at the Apollo Theatre in Newport on Sunday 2nd March from 3.30pm to 7pm.

Entry is by a £20 cash donation, with all proceeds going to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

With an outstanding musical line-up and an opportunity to support a crucial service, the event promises to be an afternoon to remember.
