Body of man discovered (Update 2)

Police confirm this morning that the body of a man was found in Ventnor yesterday (Monday 17th August).

They, along with Fire and Rescue services, were called to a car park on Down Lane at 2pm yesterday.

A spokesman for the police said,

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and police are now compiling a file for the coroner.”

The police had earlier today issued an appeal for the dog walker who reported the discovery to get in touch. Thanks to the media publicity, he came forward and police are no longer trying to trace him.

The man has not yet been formally identified.

Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends.

Article updates:
Added that police were trying to locate the dog owner who had reported the discovery to the National Trust. Later in the day removed the appeal after the dog owner got in touch with police.
