At the celebration of the life of Freshwater resident and charity champion Hiliary Jarman, her family indicated they would make donations to three charities. The first two at Wessex Cancer Trust and Huntington’s Society were made last month.
Earlier this week Hiliary’s husband, Chris Jarman, attended Southampton General Hospital where Hiliary had been taken by air ambulance from St Mary’s in January, and where she sadly passed away.
Overwhelming care and consideration
During the two weeks living, waiting, praying and talking to Hiliary at Southampton General Hospital, as they waited hoping Hiliary would recover, the family were supported by the staff at the Neurological and General ICUs and admired their overwhelming care and consideration.
Their facilities for families and visitors however are limited and they have plans in place and an appeal fund to dramatically upgrade them. A donation of £1,000 will go towards these upgrades.
These facilities at Southampton General Hospital are significantly used by Isle of Wight families and visitors unable to return quickly should they be required.

The photos of the cheque presentation were taken with the team in the Neurological Intensive Care Unit. In the top image the team at Southampton Neuro ICU are (from the left) – Dr John Hell, Consultant Neuro-anaesthetist/ Intensivist Neuro ICU; Linda Monk, Matron Neuro ICU and Beverly Harris, Senior Sister Neuro ICU. The second image shows Chris with Sofia Hadzidmitriou, the hospital’s Fundraising Administrator.
Our thoughts go out to Hiliary’s family and friends. These donations to vital services for those in need are a fitting tribute to her life and work as a charity champion.
Don’t miss the Spring Fayre
The regular annual Wessex Cancer Trust Spring Fayre, established by Hiliary and held at Freshwater Court in May, will continue this year as usual.
