breast screening unitSt Mary’s Breast Screening unit has experienced a breakdown of one of its pieces of equipment.

Over the next six weeks the Breast Screening Service will be extending its opening hours to include evenings and weekends to ensure patients will still be screened.

Only one mammography unit for next few weeks
The Breast Screening Unit, which normally operates its service with two machines, will still be operational but it will only have one mammography unit in service over the next few weeks until the new unit arrives and is installed.

Karen Baker, Chief Operating Officer for the NHS on the Isle of Wight says, “Unfortunately this breakdown will mean that about 100 patients will need to have their appointments re-arranged. We are contacting patients with new appointment times over the next few days.

“We apologies for any inconvenience but want to reassure our patients we are extending our service to make sure they are still seen as soon as possible. A state of the art digital replacement had been put on order before the breakdown as part of our rolling investment programme and is due to arrive over the coming weeks.”
