At the Annual Town Meeting on Monday night, Ventnor Mayor, Brian Lucas gave his report to the Council and public (very low attendance, maybe due to the mix up in schedule).
He has kindly allowed us to publish his report on the Blog … here it follows.
The Town Council works closely with local groups such as Ventnor Enhancement Fund, the Spring Hill Garden Group, Ventnor Partnership and others and supports them with financial assistance, recognising the value of the service which they give voluntarily to the community as a whole. I would like to record our appreciation of all that they do.
The Town Council precept for the coming year was fixed at £90,000, representing a reduction of 10% against last year’s precept. We are giving the town good value for money and are pleased that we have again received the approval of the District Auditor in respect of our procedures and accounts.
The Chairpersons of the Grants Committee, the Plans Committee and the Winter Gardens Committee will be making reports after this report and I will leave it to them to give information as to the activities of these committees.
I would like to thank the local press for reporting the proceedings of all our meetings so fully. This is very helpful particularly for those people who cannot personally attend or do not have access to the Town Council website.
We welcome the attendance of the public at meetings and we set aside fifteen minutes before every ordinary Council meeting to allow the public to ask questions.
I wish to record my appreciation of the support given to me by my Chaplain, Rev. Barry Downer and to thank the officers of the council for the professional service they give
I chose “Shelter” as my charity this year and I am pleased to note that £600 was raised at a Christmas carol concert held in this hall.
I thank all the members of the council for their work and support in the year .
On personal note, I would like to say how pleased and honoured I am to have been to be the Towns’ mayor over the last year.
Thank you
Brian Lucas – Ventnor Town Mayor
