VB contributor, Bryony Young, got in touch to tell us about her imminent plans to get involved in a volunteer project in Spain. We wish her the best of luck. Ed
To remember myself turning two decades, I have decided to embark on an outreach volunteer project, to Santander, Spain.
The Christian charity I will be working on behalf of is Latin Link, there vision is summed in one word: formación, meaning caring for the whole person, regardless of there age or situation.
Working with my eight strong, all female, team members, alongside the local churches, our project is to help run kids summer camps and a homeless shelter.
We will also be supporting a smaller church through street evangelism, and using drama and mime as a medium to the local Spanish community.
Currently I am fundraising as much money as I can to help our, “team fund” so we can buy art and craft materials, and to help aid my personal financial situation.
I have been cleaning three storey houses and piles of ironing to raise support within my family and friends. All of the money raised, is going directly to Latin Link, who are organizing the project on behalf of the team.
I have decided to take this four week adventure, as after spending every summer on the Island, with all it’s charm, it is time to meet some new people and tell them about this “Garden Isle”.
It is my 20th birthday on the day I travel out, on the 21st July, making it the most adventurous birthday yet! I will be packing some IW postcards and gifts for the locals so we can put the Island on the map.
