Bus drivers on routes operated by Go-Ahead Group companies in the south will be allowed to park and switch their engines off to join the two minutes silence on Sunday, 11 November at 11am.
Ed Wills, Operations Director of Bluestar in Hampshire and Southern Vectis on the Isle Of Wight, says that drivers will be encouraged to make the unscheduled stop provided it is safe and legal to do so.
Respecting the national act of remembrance
It is expected that the majority of the buses on the network operated by the Go Ahead Group will be able to respect the national act of remembrance.
“We believe that the thousands of passengers travelling with us at that time will understand and accept a two minute delay to their journey,” said Ed Wills. “It is important to show respect to those who not only gave their lives for us in the two world wars but for the service men and women who have died in recent and current conflicts.”
Many of the buses will carry large poppies on the front of the vehicles to support the British Legion’s annual appeal.
