Further to Stuart George’s article last week about changes to services by Southern Vectis last week, we received the following from Jill Wareham over the weekend. Ed
I am really pleased to announce that Southern Vectis are putting on extra evening bus services between Newport and Brook details of which are below.
Starting on 9th January, the buses will run Monday to Saturday; 1840 from Newport to Brook; 1908 from Brook to Newport; 2210 from Newport to Brook.
Meeting proved fruitful
These extra buses were offered by Marc Morgan-Huws from Southern Vectis at a meeting with myself and Joan and Doug Dimmack.
I also tried to arrange a meeting with David Pugh who, we were told, was representing Brighstone and Shorwell whilst Peter Bingham was absent through illness. David Pugh declined to meet.
Although this does not take us back to the excellent service we had before we could not refuse the offer of a couple of extra evening buses.
Joan, Doug and I composed a questionnaire to find out which services would be most used and we delivered these, with the help of Avice Mariner, to properties between Brook and Shorwell and asked people to drop them off at various points of collection. We are very grateful to Brighstone Village Shop, the Sun Inn, Brook and Shorwell Post Offices that collected the questionnaires. We had 138 responses.
Use them or lose them
I believe there is still a need to lobby our local Isle of Wight Councillor to at least retain, and possibly enhance, the service we now have particularly as it is proposed that Wightbus will cease from 31st August 2011. If we want to keep our buses we have to use them or lose them.
