This morning, a ten year anniversary will be celebrated at Butler Gardens Hostel in Shanklin.
Town Crier Shirley Ballard will be marking the event by planting a 10th Anniversary tree and remembering the post-Oscar launch 10 years ago by the late Anthony Minghella.
She’ll be joined by IW Councillors, current and previous staff and residents, as well as trustees of the Real World Trust who pioneered the facility.
A whopping 1,500 residents have been through the hostel over the last ten years people during this time, receiving support, training and employment advice, during and after their stay.
Donna Lynch, Hostel Manager who has been with the project since 1999 said “The project has come a long way in this time and, more importantly, by providing a quality resource we have shown what a difference appropriate and timely support can make to people in need at one moment of their lives.
“The day will provide an opportunity to remember the launch that Anthony Minghella gave us 10 years ago just after he received the Oscar, and that we have made a difference to the lives of so many people over the last 10 years”.
