The Isle of Wight Cabinet tonight voted on recommendations to close Shanklin Fire Station.

The recommendations comes as part of the modernisation of the Fire Service on the Isle of Wight.

course he did….how could he stand up for the constituents he is supposed to represent who are massively opposed to this move…When his council originated the idea.

To close this station before the alternative is built is negligent..and the very first life lost or injury done is laid at his door

Perhaps someone can correct me but didnt Pugh and Williams say they would keep the firestation open on the run up to the election

not sure, but it does ring a bell. Easiest solution, if theyve broken their promises dont vote for them. Hell, even if theyve kept their promises dont vote for them. The Yacht Haven incident should provide sufficient incentive for most to change their votes, and broken promises should provide the rest.

Quite correct – how can they now hold their heads high in Shanklin? Would you vote them in again??

The next step will be for them to say they intend moving the Library into the vacated Fire Station!

My councillor walked out without voicing the opinion of his constituents, which he knows is massively against this closure..conflict of interest…electing Pugh in the first place was a conflict of interest.

Maybe when he sitting in the Crab having a pint whilst a family down the road looses its home because the Tender couldn’t get their quick enough from Sandown will knock some sense into his mind

im slightly puzzled as to how Pugh leaves because its a conflict of interest, yet Williams stays. Surely both or neither have a conflict of interest. I would have thought neither because the fire station is not owned by either of them or anything like that. Maybe its down to who will sit on the planning committe for the flats that will inevitably replace the fire station.

This is absolutely disgusting. As a local resident, I remember David William’s election campaign leaflet clearly “I will save Shanklin Fire Station”.

Oh how incompetent as ever the Island Conservatives have made themselves look.

This is disgusting. Every town should have a fire station. I’m genuinely shocked that somewhere as big as shanklin will be left without a fire station.

Just another one of the lies told by this council, along with no children will be taught in mobile classrooms. And then of course there’s Eco Isle, possibly the biggest con of them all.

Retained Firefighters get 10% of what Wholetime Firefighters get yet are required to respond to their station within minutes 24×7 each and every day of the year (compared to their Wholetime counterparts who work 4 days on then have 4 days off) so they are HUGELY cost effective. Doing away with any of them is simply illogical. Consider this… these Day Crewed stations at Ryde and soon… Read more »
