Twelve cross-party Isle of Wight councillors have signed a motion to be heard at the next full council meeting.
The motion calls on the council to agree to replace four existing Executive Advisory Committees by two Policy Review and Development Sub Committees of the Scrutiny Committee, namely, Children’s Services and Economy, Environment, Transport and Tourism.
Newly introduced system
The current system of governance – an Executive Committee, Scrutiny Committee and Executive Advisory Groups – was approved by the council in November 2013 and only introduced in April 2014.
However, as reported by OnTheWight in June, since the introduction of the system, there appears to be a boycott by Conservative councillors, with all choosing to avoid joining any of the Advisory Groups.
The motion has been proposed by ten Conservative councillors and two Labour councillors.
