In January HIOWAA will be launching a volunteer recruitment drive in a bid to recruit more volunteers. The charity, which currently has 120 volunteers who fulfil a number of roles, hopes to increase its volunteer base to 200-250 volunteers.
Volunteer Co-ordinator Kirsty Davies commented
“Volunteers are the backbone of any charity and HIOWAA is no different. As the charity grows, so does the need for more volunteers to enable us to keep the Air Ambulance flying and saving lives. We already have a really strong team of supporters helping the charity and we’re looking to build on this success.”
Volunteer Roadshow
On January 17th, the HIOWAA Volunteer Roadshow will hit the road, visiting the following locations throughout the county;
Saturday 17th January – Princes Mead Shopping Centre, Farnborough
Monday 19th January – The Furlong, Romsey
Tuesday 20th January – University Hospital Southampton (entrance)
Thursday 22nd January – Guildhall, Andover

Tuesday 27th January – Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham
Wednesday 28th January – Hythe Centre
Friday 30th January – Cascades, Portsmouth

The charity has volunteers of all ages and from all walks of life, and has a number of different roles that need filling; helping out at events, collecting collection pots, giving talks and lending a hand in the charity office.
Kirsty continued,
“It currently costs just over £4,000 a day to keep the Air Ambulance flying, and our costs are set to rise when we begin night flying later this year.
“Without the support of our volunteers, we truly could not do it. It’s as simple as that.”
