Terry Goodwin, the RMA Branch Secretary, told News OnTheWight,
“Some war graves are in good condition, others are in urgent need of attention.
“There are approximately 458 war graves in over 45 cemeteries on the Island, including nine Royal Marine graves.”
Visit the gazebo
There will be an RMA gazebo at St James’ Square on Fridays and Saturdays during this time where you can get more information and donate to the project.
Royal Marine freebees will be available.
Schools flower project
Terry went on to explain how they hope to get schools involved,
“We plan to encourage local schools to ask if each pupil can make a flower and it’s hoped that to commemorate those that fell, a flower bed can be constructed at Shanklin Chine.
“It’s planned to have this completed by Remembrance Sunday.”
If you know of any War Graves in your area that require attention please contact Terry on the email below.
