The awards were made in front of a three hundred strong audience at Cowes Yacht Haven on Friday 24th April.
Speaking at the event CCG Chairman Dr John Rivers said:
“It has been another challenging year for Primary Care and the CCG on the Island. Many practices have had to manage Care Quality Commission(CQC) inspections, increasing workload and some have had to manage recruitment difficulties.
“The CCG has been working hard to support the NHS Trust through a difficult winter, is grappling with the need for transformational change and is also facing increased financial pressures. Yet despite this, what gets us through is a pride in the work we do and a focus on commissioning and delivering high quality care to our community.
“We can also be proud that the Island as a whole is rising to the challenge of continuing to deliver the best quality of care into the future. The ‘My Life A Full Life’ (MLAFL) programme is progressing in its ambition to deliver patient centred coordinated services. It is beginning to show that ‘integration’ is much more than just a word. We have been recognised nationally to be a Vanguard site under the New Models of Care initiative whereby we will be supported to develop the MLAFL programme as quickly as possible.”
Dr Rivers continued,
“And how will we recognise that success? I suggest that not only will patients feel that they are getting a good service but those working in health care will have a real joy in the work they do and will feel they personally can make a difference.”

- Practice Employee of the Year – Karen Collett, Reception Team Leader, Esplanade Surgery, Ryde
- CCG Employee of the Year – Michelle Jones, Commissioning Manager, Community/Children Commissioning Team
- Practice Manager of the Year – Glenda Morey, Dower House, Newport
- Special Recognition – Rachael Hayes CCG Head of Community Commissioning
- Special Recognition – Dr Peter Randall, Sandown Health Centre
- Special Recognition – Dr Eugene Hughes, Esplanade Surgery, Ryde
In keeping with the tradition of keeping the awards local to the Isle of Wight, this year’s awards were designed by the members of the awards panel with St Lawrence artist Guido Oakley.
Important to celebrate excellence
Helen Shields, CCG Chief Officer said:
“It is important to celebrate excellence and I am delighted that the evening was so successful. I would like to thank the awards committee, led by Sarah Rochford, who put such a tremendous effort into the evening.”
Following the Awards and a meal, NHS staff from the Island’s Indian community, led by Shanklin Medical Centre GP, Dr Suma Sreeshyla, provided entertainment with a number of traditional dances and a ‘Bollywood’ finale. They were joined by Dr John Rivers and Pharmacist Andy Brandham who had been training with the dance troupe for three months.
