The Isle of Wight (and the universe) has lost a very special person.
William Treend, who lived in Adgestone with Zoe, his partner of 30+ years, sadly passed away on Wednesday 8th March.
Will has been responsible for teaching more than 700 people around the world the simple and life-changing practice of Transcendental Meditation.
Will wanted to “live in a better world”
A former hair stylist with four salons in the Portsmouth and Southsea area, Will decided to pack it all in and become a teacher in Transcendental Meditation (TM) in the early 1990s because he wanted to “live in a better world”.
Making a living from teaching TM was pretty challenging, but Will was determined to share the teachings of Maharishi and was always very generous with his time.
A positive influence
Will worked with the David Lynch Foundation at several Bestivals – here and off the Island – to help spread the benefits of TM, and has taught some very influential people around the world.
People from all walks of life have found the practice instrumental on providing clarity, peace and success. Many musicians and artists have benefitted from Will’s teachings, including Tim Burgess from the Charlatans, who visited the Island several times to visit Will.
Improved the lives of those he taught
One of the gentlest and most compassionate people we’ve ever met, Will’s recent goal was to teach TM to at least one per cent of the Island population.
Sadly we lost him before he reached that goal, but for those that he taught and remained in contact with, their lives have been made immeasurably better.
Join in a group meditation
This Friday (17th March) Will had organised a Group Mediation to celebrate the equinox at Brading Roman Villa (between 12.30-2pm).
His partner has decided to continue with the event and anyone who practices TM is welcome to attend and remember Will in a group mediation. Meditators from the Mainland will also be attending.
