Following VB’s report last week about the change scam that readers had reported to us, Police are now issuing a warning to Islanders.
As well as the incidents VB reported, other reports across the Island have been made to Police.
They have at least four reports of men attempting to steal money by confusing shop staff.
Isle of Wight Head of CID, Detective Chief Inspector Bob Maker, said:
“We are eager to track down those responsible for this scam as soon as possible, and support island businesses at risk of losing money.
“Police are following several lines of enquiry, but there are no definitive descriptions of suspects at this time. We have circulated warnings to local hotels and guest houses, and I would urge residents, visitors and businesses to report any suspicious activity to the police.”
