Congratulations to Isle of Wight based artist, Charles Inge, who has been awarded the Winsor & Newton Oil Prize for his fabulous piece of work, ‘Tethered Beach Hut’.
The Prize was announced at a ceremony at The Mall Galleries last night (Thursday) where Charles’ work is currently sitting alongside many other works by other marine artists.
Charles told OnTheWight this morning,
“I was painting abroad when I heard that my painting had won. It is such a quiet modest painting, I still can’t believe that it has stood out.
“To be honest when I look round the show I’m completely in awe of the brilliant skill and craftsmanship of these marine artists.”
Ventnor inspiration
‘Tethered Beach Hut’ was inspired by a hut on Ventnor Beach.

It was painted partly from memory and partly from old photographs. The hut itself was destroyed in a storm a few years ago which accounts for its ghost-like appearance in the painting.
You have until 8 October 2016 to view the work in person.
