A new exhibition kicks off this weekend in the Michael West Gallery at Quay Arts
‘Charm Offensive’ transforms the entire Michael West Galleries with a series of striking wall-to-wall drawings by UK based artist Greig Burgoyne which invite us to question, just what do we value?
This large-scale drawing work is the culmination of a series of site visits made to the Island by Burgoyne throughout 2007. The response is a departure from his preoccupation with the waning structures and objects of our coastal heritage as he explores the tarnished manifestations of contemporary life, its consumerism, its waste and its value systems.
He assaults the walls with both harsh brush strokes and figurative.
Imagery, impacting on our comfort zone where the quintessential English charm of a bygone era meets the brash, tarnished and perhaps offensive implications of a wider world.
The show will also include a series of limited edition prints.
Greig Burgoyne was born in Glasgow, Scotland and studied at the Royal College of Art, London (MA Painting). Recent solo shows include Studio 21 Fine Art Halifax Canada, ArtSpace Gallery, London, The Russian State Museum, and Insel Galerie, Wiesbaden Germany. His work is in numerous collections including the Swiss Bank Corporation, Stadt Mainz, The Russian State Museum, The Bank of Montreal, and DAAD Bonn Germany.
Artists gallery talk takes place on Friday 30 May 6 – 8pm
