Following the success of Christ the King College’s Sixth Form students at last week’s A level results day, it was the turn of Year 11 students to go through the same ritual and excitement for their GCSE and BTEC results today.
Against the backdrop of an interrupted and challenging landscape since the pandemic, the 16-year-olds at Christ the King achieved outcomes and progress measures which demonstrated their strength of character, determination and resilience to achieve a highly commendable set of GCSE and BTEC results.
Students did exceptionally well
On almost all metrics, and in the vast majority of the 20-plus subjects offered at Key Stage 4, students did exceptionally well. In terms of ‘pass’ grades (4+) in English and Maths, progress across all subjects, and improvement from last year’s results, the data is overwhelmingly positive.
There were significant improvements also in terms of top-end grades, and the outcomes of students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds and those with specific needs. This is particularly pleasing, as this is a strategic focus of the college, and is a testament to two of the college core values:
- To challenge each other to greatness, and
- To be inclusive of all in the Isle of Wight community.
Emphasis placed on development of the individual
At Christ the King, a great emphasis is placed on the development of the individual, celebrating each child’s uniqueness in the eyes of God and fostering in them feelings of self-worth and self-belief. The College’s ethos has remained firmly rooted in family, friendliness and relationships.
With Latin, Photography, Drama, Food Technology, Health & Social Care, and French, to name but a few, Christ the King’s unique curriculum provision at Key Stage 4 has something for everyone. These subject areas not only give students at Christ the King a clear pathway into the high-achieving Sixth Form at the college itself (over 50% of these Year 11 students will remain at CtK), the broad curriculum offer also ensures that students are well prepared for other post-16 opportunities on the Island or the mainland.
The whole community of Christ the King is incredibly proud of our students, who have collectively and individually reflected and lived out our Vision:
To be an inclusive and aspirational Christian College where everyone has the opportunity to achieve their potential – and beyond.
Montrose: Whatever the future holds for our out-going Year 11 students, the whole CtK family wishes them well
Christ the King’s proud Headteacher Andrew Montrose added his congratulations to the students,
“Christ the King is a truly remarkable and supportive community and is very much on an onwards trajectory.
“Whilst all students at Christ the King deserve credit, special mention must be made to those who have achieved some phenomenal top-end grades, and also those students who have made exceptional progress – too many to mention by name!
“With an increase in enrichment and leadership opportunities for students, more consistency in teaching and learning strategies, and a values-driven focus inside and outside the classroom, this cohort of students have epitomised what our school is all about.
“Thanks, must be extended to the passionate and loyal teaching and support staff at Christ the King, for the help and the time they have devoted to this Year group. Thank you also to the parents and Governors who have shown compassion, belief, and commitment throughout a challenging few years for these young people.
“Whatever the future holds for our out-going Year 11 students, the whole CtK family wishes them well. God bless them all as they take the next steps on their journey.
“Via Veritas Vita.”
