Thanks to John for sharing this news about Bembridge Library. In his own words. Ed
Everyone in Nettlestone, Seaview, St Helens, Bembridge and Brading is invited to come and see what their community library is like now, and enjoy some Christmas cheer in the process.
And the welcome is for the whole family. There will be Christmas music, refreshments including mince pies and mulled wine, storytelling and colouring for the youngest visitors – as well as a bookstall offering a wide selection of titles that could make ideal Christmas presents.
Designs for a library logo created by children from Bembridge Primary School will also be on display.
Usual library services too
All the usual library services will be in operation, because of course Saturday morning is one of the regular opening times for this community-run service.
Councillor Jonathan Bacon, who chairs the Bembridge Community Library committee and represents Bembridge, Brading and St Helens at County Hall, thought the time was right for this event: “Our team of library volunteers is working well, so we thought we should mark the transition from council to community by inviting everyone to come and see what their library has to offer – and what better time than at Christmas.”
Great commitment
Mike Bulpitt, Chief Executive of the Isle of Wight Rural Community Council, which is under-writing the project, explains – “The Rural Community Council is committed to Helping Communities Help Themselves and it’s great to see the commitment of local residents prepared to give up their own time to save a valued local service.”
