Perfect for a rainy day, Quay Art’s Christmas drop-in session was very popular with families from all over the island who visited the free festive family drop-in workshop, adding sparkle to a dreary, wintry day.
The sessions were organised so that families could drop in for a short time and make something special to take home. They were run by Island artists Janice Thwaites, Jenny Clayden and Malai Stimson who volunteered their time to help, making these special family events possible.
This workshop was set up in the spacious Seminar Room adjacent to the Cafe, giving hungry families easy access to much needed cups or tea, cakes and special kid’s lunchboxes.
One table had great fun making bells, reindeers and alien bells! Six children, two mothers and one grandmother all had a hand in producing delightful twinkly creations.
Ross Dunford, 7 and Dominic Dunford, 9 – two very energetic brothers loved every minute of it.
‘I enjoyed making stuff basically and annoying my brother! We have been here before to see a show upstairs about bird’s eggs and making a wish, ‘ said Ross, the youngest brother.
‘I thought it was really fun because I knew what I was making and I could put as many things on his nose as I liked’,’ exclaimed Dominic holding up his perfectly finished red-nosed reindeer alongside his friend Flynn Jones’, 9 impressive reindeer.
Charlie Vine, 7 held up a very twinkly bell she had made and said, ‘ I liked it a lot because I like making all the stuff, I loved making the bell,’ and Lucy Bayliss, the youngest at 5 said she enjoyed making her bell and that her nanny, Bonnie Lasker, 63 had helped her to put the bell on the inside of the cup.’
Another family, Kirsty and Loic Le Floch with their young brood, Celine and Yoann, twins aged 3 and their older sister, Lucie, 5 were busily creating lots of Christmas decorations of such high quality, that a passerby offered Yoann money for his creations!
‘He’s getting offers for his work, this is promising, he’ll be able to make money one day,’ exclaimed his proud father, Loic.
The next Free Family Drop-In Workshop is scheduled as part of the celebrations of the Learning Curve Galleries’ 10th birthday celebrations. All welcome to come along to the Mad Hats Family Drop In workshop on Sat 4 April. 10am -12pm & 1 – 3pm.
