There has been growing concern among residents about five acres of roadways, pavements, verges and parcels of land in Sandown that are going up for sale at auction in March.
The pieces of land to the north and south sides of Jeals Lane and Sandham Close, Sandown, have been unexpectedly inherited by a family who didn’t know they owned the land until recently.
Heather: Remnants of the housing developments
Paul Heather from agents, Charles Darrow, told News OnTheWight,
“These pieces of land have been unexpectedly inherited by the family who didn’t know they owned the land until recently.
“The land is effectively remnants of the housing developments built by Davis Estates where they have held onto the freehold titles of the roadways, verges and pavements etc.”
Growing concerns
However in a discussion about the auction lot on Sandown Hub, residents have been expressing their concern about the sale of the land.
Many say the verges have always been cut by the Isle of Wight Council and that children play on the green spaces, as well as dog owners having somewhere to walk their dogs.
The auction takes place on 17th March with an opening guide price of £5,000.
Heather: Being sold on behalf of Davis Estates
Mr Heather went on to explain,
“Charles Darrow Auctions has sold over 100 plots of land similar to this one over the past two years.
“They are being sold on behalf of Davis Estates, who were a major housebuilder established in the 1940s and responsible for building thousands of houses across the UK up until the 1980s.”
