Confidence, self-belief, and a desire to share yoga’s benefits: Island School of Yoga graduate testimonials

December 2022 saw the Island School of Yoga (ISOY) honour its second class of yoga teachers as they successfully completed their teacher training course; the five students received their certification as yoga teachers from Emma Goodier, founder and owner of ISOY.

Emma said,

“I am so proud of my students; it has been a real honour and privilege to have been involved in their personal and professional development.

“I am confident they will all go on to successfully establish themselves as yoga teachers in their own right.”

A mixture of online and face-to-face teaching
The two module programme, which is certified by Yoga Alliance, is taught using a mixture of online and face-to-face teaching. Gerry and Tanya, both of Bembridge, completed both modules of the course. Gerry said,

“When we started this course we didn’t know what to expect but I think I speak for Tanya and myself when I say it’s been an extraordinary journey on so many levels.”

The philosophy of yoga
In Module One the students studied the philosophy of yoga, inviting them to explore the relevance of yoga’s teachings to a modern day student, as well as learning to teach the physical aspect of the practice, which included going into the community to teach.

The modular structure of the course allows students flexibility in how they study; they can study the teachings of yoga for their own development without going on to study how to teach yoga giving them a strong foundation in yoga; or they can then progress to teaching yoga.

Other course members
Gerry and Tanya were joined on the course for Module Two by Nadine from Zurich, and Liz and Kirsty from the Mainland, all three having completed a foundational course with other organisations.

Nadine said,

“I already have teaching experience and was looking for something to consolidate and complement my existing yoga practice, and this course offered the perfect solution.

“Because of its mixture of online and in person teaching, I was able to practice and study at home and once a month meet with my fellow students.”

An amazing experience
On behalf of the students Liz said,

“This has been an amazing experience. It’s given us confidence, self-belief and a real desire to share with others the benefits that yoga has to offer.

“Emma has been a fantastic teacher and mentor, expertly guiding us with kindness, compassion and generosity.”

Gabriele, a graduating student from the Class of 2021, said,

“I’m so pleased for these five students and I’m sure that they will benefit as much as we have from ISOY’s ongoing mentoring programme to advise and assist as necessary as they establish themselves in their own yoga businesses.”
