At last night’s full council meeting members debated the 2013/14 budget proposed by the ruling Conservative group.
The plans, as outlined in the embedded document below, will include further job losses as a result of the £7m savings being made in the next financial year.
Council leader David Pugh said the Isle of Wight council expects to face further reductions in resources in 2014/15 of £9.5m, so proposals also laid out a strategy for a budget review later this year.
Parking charges and the IWC’s element of council tax remain frozen, with £3m of capital investment being made to meet broadband needs in rural areas.
Approved
The budget proposals were approved with 23 in favour, 12 against and one councillor abstaining.
As pointed out earlier in the week, no alternative budgets were proposed this year.
Cllr Welsford, on behalf of the Independent Group of councillors said, “The decision not to submit a budget alternative this year is entirely made on the basis that we are at a time when it is not this chamber that will decide but the electorate and that is why it is right to vote against this conservative budget proposal and not put forward an alternative yet.”
