Cowes Enterprise College is really pleased to announce that all donations and sponsors for our Cycle for Syria have now been taken in and as a grand total we raised £1,246.73.
On Monday 28th September, 30 staff and students of Cowes Enterprise College took part in a five hour sponsored cycle at Cowes Club (formerly known as Gurnard Pines) to raise money to help the Syrian refugees, and the event was a roaring success.
Astounded by total raised
Zoe Divers, Communications Intern and organiser of the event, said,
“I honestly thought we would probably only make about £200. When I saw the final figure I was astounded. We did incredibly well and I am so proud of everyone that took part.”
Two individuals that raised the most money were Mitchell Hamer (16), raising £215, and Harry Chapman (16) who raised £166. On the night, we had a raffle which raised £75 and even some members of the club gave very generous donations!
Who the money will help
This money will be split between two charities – The Samara’s Aid Appeal and CalAid. The donation to CalAid will go towards helping supplies get out to the Syrian refugees in Calais by aiding the transport, and the monies toward Samara’s Aid will help to pay for an ambulance to assist any of those injured.
Sam Lewis, 16, said,
“I’m really pleased to have been able to make a difference to those who really need our help. We have all done a great job.”
Again, we would like to thank our amazing 6th Formers for all their hard work and effort towards the project. They all did incredibly well!
Cowes Enterprise College would like to formally thank Cowes Club for their support and use of their equipment. All students had a brilliant time and we are incredibly grateful.
