Following concerns about the closure of the Post Office in Cowes, this clarification in from Sheila on behalf of the Post Office. Ed
Agreement has been reached for Cowes Post Office to continue to operate from the current temporary portable cabin.
The Southern Co-operative Store had operated Cowes Post Office in its store at Terminus Road, Cowes, PO31 7XH until it sold its supermarket to Marks & Spencer.
For the past three months Southern Co-operative Store has operated the branch from a portable cabin in the supermarket’s car park, while it served out its notice period for running the Post Office.
We have a temporary Postmaster, who will now continue to operate the branch from the portable cabin.
Temporary solution
The portable cabin is a temporary solution to maintain Post Office services in the area while we work towards a more permanent solution.
Post Office Ltd is speaking to an interested party about a long-term solution for the area. These discussions are progressing well and we hope to be in a position to commence a period of local public consultation to locate to a new site soon.
Julia Marwood, Regional Area Manager, said:
“We are committed to maintaining Post Office services in Cowes. We have been working hard to achieve this. We are delighted that we can continue with a portable cabin for the time being and we hope to soon have a proposal for a permanent Post Office at a new location in Cowes.”
