Cowes RNLI assists Gosport fishing boat taking in water

A fishing boat, taking on water because of a broken propeller shaft, led to Coastguards putting out an urgent call to Cowes RNLI lifeboat this morning.

The Gosport based 26-foot boat, with two people aboard, radioed it was in trouble north of the Bramble Bank, at the entrance to Southampton Water.

Towed to Hamble Point
After launching at 10.15am the lifeboat arrived to find that the fishing boat’s crew had managed to clamp-off the leak, although their craft had lost all power.

The lifeboat towed the boat to Hamble Point and returned to Cowes lifeboat station just after midday.
