The Isle of Wight really does its bit to help raise funds for worthy causes and the team at Cowes Yacht Haven tell us this afternoon that in the last in eight days, a whopping £12,000 has been raised for charity at their venue.
You might be wondering what the events were that managed to gather up this great sum. Well, it starts with the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce, Tourism and Industry’s Business Awards for Excellence which took place a couple of weeks ago. They managed to raise cash through a raffle, the proceeds of which will go to LACES (Looked After Children Education Service).
Twenty four hours later and a disco night called DECADeANCE, organised by Island DJ, Tony Martin, managed to raise £5,100 for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and the Barely Born Appeal.
One week on, Hampshire Constabulary held their Black Tie Charity Ball, bringing in a massive £6,000 for The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign, The Gurney Fund for Police Orphans and Motor Neurone Disease.
Not to mention the £168 that was raised for the Wessex Cancer Trust through raffle, tombola and auction.
Ian Gregory, Events Centre Manager at Cowes Yacht Haven, said: “It is incredible that so much money has been raised for charity here in just eight days. As the Events Centre Manager I come into contact with a lot of dedicated people and I see first hand how much time and effort they put into organising events in order to benefit others. Everyone at Cowes Yacht Haven is delighted to be involved in making sure these events happen and raise as much money for charity as possible.”
