A meeting is being held at the George Street Centre in Ryde this coming Friday to protest at the cuts to jobs and services proposed by the Isle of Wight council.
The meeting has been organised by The Trades Council (of which there are three on the Island) in order to give residents the chance to air their concerns at the cuts that are taking place across society.
Island-wide support
Members of the Trades Council are active in several local protests and on Sunday they’ll be attending a meeting called by local Citizens of the Oakfield area in Ryde to try and get a decent bus service in their area.
Tony Kelly of the Ryde Trades Union Council told us, “We don’t claim to have all the answers but want to give Citizens a chance to speak out against whatever cuts are affecting them. We will be allowing everyone to air their views but in an orderly and democratic manner.
“We have invited Mark Chiverton the Unison organiser on the Island to start the meeting with a his view of how the cuts will affect them. After that it will be up to the people that attend as to how the meeting is held and the decisions that will be made to move on.”
The meeting takes place on Friday 17th December, 6.30pm at the George Street Centre, Ryde
