Delegated Decision For New Adult Community Learning Plan

Cllr Dawn Cousins will make a delegated decision on whether or not to approve the new Adult Community Learning Plan for the Isle of Wight.

County Hall:The plan outlines the council’s intention to support adults by providing access to a range of learning opportunities.

Regenerate the local economy
The idea is to build the skills base of individuals and the community in an effort to regenerate the local economy and improve health and well-being, amongst other aims.

It is targeted at adults in deprived communities, those without formal qualifications or who have not reached NVQ level 2, those with disabilities, poor mental health or limiting illnesses, men, older people and families with neither parent working or who live in poor quality housing.

Reductions
There were 2,008 learners last year, 2010/2011. The planned number for this year has been reduced to 1,890 to reflect the reduced levels of funding.

The curriculum
The Adult Community Learning Plan aims to focus on ICT, English, Maths, personal motivation, confidence building, team work and employable skills.

The curriculum also includes skills for community involvement and encourages learners to volunteer.
